Hvar
with our cruises
Hvar is the sunniest Adriatic island and a fashionable destination - if it is good enough for Beyonce, Prince Harry or the president of Croatia, it is good enough for us! But it’s not all about sun and party; Hvar has rich history and tradition and beautiful nature; the island is the only destination in Croatia with three sites listed on >UNESCO list of protected natural and cultural heritage.
Upon arrival to Hvar town, join our sightseeing tour with a local guide who will tell you about the oldest communal theatre in Europe (set above “Arsenal” at local square) and many other interesting things about Hvar.
Walk along the seaside promenade direction east from the port to visit Franciscan Monastery and art collection with the most famous life size painting of ‘Last Supper’ from Mateo of Ravenna. Open 10–13h (May, Jun, Sept and Oct) and 10–13h & 17-19h (Jul and Aug).
The island of Hvar is famous for its lavender fields and lavender oils or scent bags are very typical souvenirs, as well as agave lace handmade by nuns from the Benedictine convent or local honey with special taste.
Well worth the climb is a view from the Venetian Citadel above the town. In addition to amazing view of Hvar and Paklinski Islands, you will also see a display of Greek and Roman finds. Open during high season 9-21h (or even longer). In pre and post season also possible to visit, but it will not be open throughout the whole day.
After climbing down, do not miss out on a sunset cocktail at one of many after beach parties organized at bars all over town.
If there is anything abundant in Hvar, then it is restaurants and bars. Petra Hektorovića Street (parallel to the main square) is full of pricey, but excellent and very popular restaurants such as Yakša, Macondo, Menego and Zlatna Školjka, with tables lined through narrow streets.
Some of more exclusive restaurants are Passarola and Paradies Garden (both located by the Cathedral) where you can enjoy Dalmatian specialities and excellent atmosphere. At diVino, overlooking the Hvar harbour, you can enjoy beautiful view of Paklinski Islands while having dinner or simply enjoying a glass of wine. And probably the most famous restaurant in Hvar is Gariful on Riva, well known for fish and sea food specialities.
Simple grilled meat, seafood dishes, spaghetti and risotto at moderate prices can be found at Bounty, Marinero, Junior or Misarola.
If you are looking to let you hair down, you are in the right place! Carpe Diem is the most famous and the first cocktail bar in Hvar, located directly in port and open till approx. 2 am when the party moves to a Veneranda club or to Stipanska Bay at nearby islet.
You can also try Hula Hula, cocktail bar with 1930’s atmosphere; Pršuta Tri Wine Bar known as the best place for fine local wines, or centrally located bars with good music and party atmosphere Nautika, Kiva, Aloha , Sidro and Loco.
