Bol (Brač Island)
with our cruises
The island of Brač has been inhabited since prehistoric times and the oldest coastal settlement is the town of Bol.
Bol is situated at the island's southern landscape, at the foot of Vidova Gora (Vid Mountain) which is the highest peak of the island and also the highest peak of all Adriatic islands (778 m).
Bol area stretches few kilometres along the coast and has many beautiful beaches, among which is the world famous beach Zlatni Rat (Golden Cape). This beach is a unique natural phenomenon that extends nearly half a kilometre into the clear blue sea like a small tongue. It "grows" with the depositing and sedimentation of small gravelly pebbles around the underwater reef, and the tip of the beach constantly changes its shape, attempting to conform to the will of the waves and gentle sea currents.
The beach is located about 2 km west of the town centre and there is a nice promenade through the pine trees and by the sea taking you there. If you do not feel like walking, there is a small scenic train that operates only during the day (9-17 h) in period 15.6.-15.9.; the ride starts/finishes at the gas station in Bol.
At the eastern side of Bol there is a Dominican monastery and museum, but are closed for visitors at the moment.
Right in the port, in the renaissance-baroque palace is situated “Branislav Dešković” art gallery. It is one of the most valuable Croatian art galleries and holds more than 300 paintings and sculptures. Open 9-12h & 18-23h in period Jun 15-Sept 15, closed on MON; other seasons open 9-15h, closed on SUN and MON.
If you are feeling fit and adventurous you can try a hike to Vidova Gora, the views are worth the strenuous climb. Alternatively you can also have a taxi to take you up there. Bol is known for water activities and you can try water skiing, parasailing, wind surfing, kayaking, wakeboarding, stand-up paddles, crazy rides, scuba diving and more.
For more relaxing time, we recommend you to try quality local wines at Vinarska Zadruga in the town centre (open in the afternoons).
You can try restaurants Equinox and Ribarska Kućica, restaurant & bar Vagabundo, pizzerias Scalinada and Topolino, and for cocktails try Varadero. These are just some of many places to eat and drink in Bol.
For more detailed information, brochures and maps visit the tourist office in the town centre, on the way towards the catamaran dock.
